The Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) has established a national certification program for Transportation Demand Management (TDM) professionals. This program supports the continuing education and professional development that enhances the knowledge and performance of local, state, federal, private-sector and non-profit TDM professionals. GVF is excited to announce that Executive Director, Rob Henry recently achieved the certification as part of the inaugural class.
Rob serves as ACT’s Public Policy Committee Chair and Immediate Past President. During his tenure as President of the Board of ACT the certification development was approved, and the creation of the Certification Board of Trustees commenced which then led the effort in the development of the TDM certification.
“For many years, the TDM industry discussed the development of a national certification program but for one reason or another it never moved forward. While President of the Board I helped to shepherd the process forward and I am very pleased to be in the inaugural group of TDM-CP recipients. As we move ahead and beyond our current challenges it will be important for communities to rely on certified TDM professionals who focus on all forms of mobility vs. driving alone. During the current pandemic we have seen many of us using facets of TDM like telework, walking, bicycling, carpooling, vanpooling and taking transit. We need to enhance these options in our local communities and now cities, towns and businesses will know where to find certified professionals to help them move forward,” said Rob Henry GVF Executive Director.
The TDM Certified Professional designation is the first of its kind. The role of the TDM professional continues to expand with increased congestion in urban centers, mobility challenges in rural and developing regions, the growth of new business districts, shifting commuter patterns, demand for convenience, the development of technologies that have created more mobility options, and now in response to recovery planning related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This certification program lays the foundation for ensuring that highly qualified individuals are available to meet the challenge of addressing the diverse needs of commuters, communities, and employers. For more information on the program click here.
